September Newsletter Article 2017

Well, September is upon us!  It's hard to believe that it's already September, this is a month that has been on the Church radar for so many months now.  It's the month of the CONCERT!  If you haven't been telling everyone you know about the concert coming up on the 16th, well... it's time to start!  The Concert starts at 6 pm on Saturday the 16th. We need folks to sign up to make brownies, rice krispie squares, and/or chocolate chip cookies.  We will have a full concession stand this year with hamburgers and hot dogs among other offerings.  As for the bars, it was decided to limit the variety to brownies, rice krispie squares, and chocolate chip cookies in order to stream line the ordering at the concession stand.  With too many choices you have too many people trying to decide what to purchase and enjoy.

Please plan to attend and help out with the concert in some fashion.  This is a great opportunity for us as a Church to demonstrate to the Community that we are alive and well and involved.  It's also a great chance to witness and celebrate our faith in our Lord and Savior.  Again, please spread the word about the concert.

A quick report on the dispersal of the Baptist Church properties, the Church Building has been deeded over to Jeff Redenius who is planning to convert the building into apartments as well as having an area for his wife to teach classes or do tutoring.  The house has been sold and deeded away, so all of the real property is taken care of.  Some of the contents of the Church have been brought over to Woodlawn and no doubt you've seen the cupboards, shelves, bookcases, pews, artwork, banners, and other items finding new homes around the building.  Brenda now has a whole new supply of decorative items to rotate around the Church as the seasons and celebrations dictate.  Thank you to Brenda for all the thought and hard work she puts into keeping the décor of the Church current with the seasons.

We do need to thank all of those who worked so very hard in moving and clearing out the Baptist Church building.  I cannot begin to thank everyone who helped out, mostly because I know I'll miss someone and I don't want to do that!  To everyone who helped in any fashion, THANK YOU!  I will make a special thank you to those who helped move out the heavy items, the organs, pews, cabinets, and piano.  The musclemen in the move were Bill Hungate, Clyde Westcott, Jess Gorden, Jim Bauman, Spencer Moon, Nick Burley, Ryan Daisy, Andrew Westcott, Nick Gorden, Matt Stephenson, Mark Hungate, Roger Diaker, Tony Snyder, and others who helped to move the organs, piano, cabinets, and the pews out of the Church.  These heavy items were a real challenge and it helped tremendously to have so many hands available.

Last night we had the second of the series of the “Catch” training.  We had sixteen people attending and everyone that I asked felt it was a very worthwhile training series.  It was brought up that perhaps we should run the program again and try and widen the sphere of folks involved.  I think this is a great idea and one that we very well may pursue.  If you haven't been to either of the two sessions yet, please feel free to come to the next one and see what you think.  The next session is scheduled for September 19th.  If you think you'd like to come talk to me and I'll give you a copy of the study material that we'll be discussing.  All of us need to be prepared and active “Fishers of Men”.

I pray that everyone will have a wonderful and safe 'Labor Day' weekend.  Remember as you gather with friends and family to be...

A blessing to someone today! (and every day!)

In Christ,
Pastor Roy

Romans 12:9-21 (NIV) -
Love in Action
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
    if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
