The Library project....

Well this weekend I started my project of converting part of the basement into a library area.  I have a big desk downstairs currently which I don't use anymore so I started unloading it and preparing to move it out and donate it to AmVets or Together, Inc. (whichever will come and get it can have it).

Located some shelves that I want down at the Furniture Mart and should be able to get two of them in the space where the desk is currently.  I'm thinking I'm going to divide the room by putting bookshelves out from the wall.  I think it will take two side by side and two back to back.  This will give me six new shelves and I think that will likely hold all of the books.  If I'm still needing space I will put some 1/2 sized shelves along the wall where we have the tv.

I'm looking forward to having Jesse's books all shelved as there are so many treasures among his collection.  I was putting tags in some yesterday and there are so many I want to read that I was giddy just looking through them.  Inside one I found a note where Jesse had written "Look up passages from Paul for Roy", that brought a tear to my eye then and it does again now.  So many times a day I want to talk to Jesse...

Getting Jesse's books shelved should save me some money, as just the other day I was on Amazon looking at books. (DANGEROUS!) I spied two that I desperately wanted, one I had in my shopping cart for a few minutes.  I decided that I had enough books backed up to read and put them in my folder "Books I Want".  Well the next morning I was searching for one of my books that I mislaid, I went to look among some of the books from Jesse that I had shelved already thinking maybe it got mixed in with them somehow.  Well low and behold there sitting side by side were the two books!  It blew my mind that among the what must be over 1,000 books I have from Jesse that these two were out of the box and on the shelf side by side.  Thank you Jesse and thank you GOD!

These are the two books.

And fortunately I did later find the missing book so it all worked out great for me.  LOL

Remember to be a blessing to somebody today!

Prayers Please

Prayers please for the son of a client.  Aaron is his name and he is 30 years old with 2 very, very young children.  He was within the last 30 days diagnosed with advanced colon-rectal cancer.  It seems it is a very aggressive form of cancer and his mother asked me if I would pray for him.

Please add Aaron to your prayers he is here in Omaha and he and his young family need every prayer they can receive.

Grace to you all,
Roy

Jamey Johnson Concert on Friday Night

Well Gail and I started the weekend off by going over to Council Bluffs and catching a concert by Jamey Johnson.  Neither of us were familiar with his music but my brother Merrill and his wife Karen were planning to come down for it so we went over and met them along with Karen's cousin and her husband.  We went out to eat and then went to the concert at the Stir Concert Cove.  I haven't listened to country music very much for a great many years and it was fun hearing some true country music after so long.

One thing I did notice was I had forgotten how bad the messages are in a great deal of country music.  This song along with "Amazing Grace" were about the only two with a good message.

The video linked is from the 25th Farm Aid Concert, I remember seeing the third Farm Aid Concert in Lincoln in 1987.  Wow what a long time ago that was....

Slow day just relaxing, writing, reading and listening to a bit of jazz.

An easy day today, we went to Church and then hit the Aksarben Farmer's Market.  Now working on a paper, reading and of course listening to Sophie Milman while I'm doing so and enjoying some good coffee.  Gail and Creath are working on homemade bagels, can't wait for them to finish.  Bagels are one of my truest weaknesses.

I'm a simple soul and it doesn't get much better than this.

Has been a good weekend so far and I'll be back and tell more once I've finished my paper for the last ELM class.  It's due today and of course I wasn't about to finish it until it was actually due.  LOL

Have a blessed day everyone!

Books and more books.....

Well I finished reading "When Jesus Became God" by Richard E. Rubenstein, it is a good book and very well worth reading for every Christian.  Far too few know anything about the rough and tumble involved in creating the creeds and the current canon of the Bible.  I came away with some unexpected insights into why Islam was so successful in making inroads into certain geographic areas.  Sadly it was (is) due to the suppression of certain theological doctrines by what was (is) to be considered the orthodox theology.  So much diversity of Christian thought has been lost during the many centuries since the arrival of our Savior that it is truly heart rendering to consider.

Now I need to go and find another book I have somewhere in my collection, (I purchased it a while back but haven't read it yet) called "Constantine's Bible, Politics and the Making of the New Testament" by David Dungan and see how that compares to Rubenstein's writings.

After completing Richard Rubenstein's book I picked up a few other books from my library and started reading or re-reading some of them.  Then last Thursday I received in the mail a book I had ordered "What Does The Bible Really Say About Hell?, wrestling with the traditional view" by Rev. Randy Klassen. I have now finished it as well, and it is another book very well worth the money and the time invested in reading it.  Klassen is however either unaware or wishes to avoid several points (I suspect the latter) that would likely make his book even more controversial but in my opinion would solidify his position even further.  He does do a very good job of pointing out translation issues that greatly weaken the theology of eternal damnation, but again he is missing some points which have been presented in other texts that I have read.  Thus far he has not presented anything new and startling to me but to far too many Christians this book would truly 'rock their world'.  I do disagree with him on some elements (for one he attributes the Pastoral's to Paul's hand and I see absolutely no way that these epistles are authentic Pauline letters) however all in all at the end of the book we are in nearly complete agreement on his conclusions.

I think a good exercise for all believers would be to first read Rob Bell's book "Love Wins" and to follow it up with Randy Klassen's book "What Does The Bible Really Say About Hell?, wrestling with the traditional view".  From there I would be happy to give advice on further study but these two should greatly help one to mould their understanding of our Lord and the depth and breadth of God's Grace and Love.

May you all be blessed richly and may you all bless richly!

A bit of Art for today.... this is fun!

Well today I just wanted to share something fun that I stumbled across.  This looks like a blast to me but I always did hate rubik cubes.  LOL

And of course the fact that the image is Dr. King makes it even more special to me.  Wish Jesse was here to see this one, he'd have absolutely loved it. Bless you Jesse!

Have a blessed day and be the blessing!
Roy

Pete Fecteau used over 4,000 Rubik’s Cubes to create this 18′ 6″ x 9′ 8″ mosaic of Dr. Martin Luther King. Apparently Rubik’s-based artwork is a “thing.” There’s Rubik’s Einstein, Lincoln, Sitting Bull, Kathy Lee and Hoda(?). There’s even a name for the genre: Rubikcubism.

Prayers PLEASE!

PLEASE PRAY!!

While the doctors were in doing surgery, they discovered that the fungus HAS spread, so as a result, they had to remove more of his legs: the left one they took to just above the knee joint, the right was up into the femur--don't know how far. He was running a fever so the only other thing they did was to put pins into the fractures in his hands. They are trying to kill the fungus with both bleach and anti-fungals, but so far it is NOT working. Please pray that the meds will begin to work. John has asked us to PRAY FOR A MIRACLE! That is what they need....

He also shared that though they have gotten some physical rest, they are all so emotionally and mentally drained--so let's continue to pray the our Lord will graciously give them the rest that they need for each moment. And let's lift up Anna in a special way as she deals with this new discouraging development.

Pray for Jed and the family this morning as he heads to surgery to clean his wounds, to remove stitches in his nose, and to insert a line which will deliver pain meds to his lower body. Please also pray his pain will be minimal and that God would further strengthen the family.
