March 17, 2019 - Philippians 3:17 to 4:1

Last Sunday we looked at the verses found in Paul's letter to the Church in Philippi.  To be exact Philippians 3:17 to 4:1.  Paul is warning the church to not be fixated upon things of this world and the old ways of Judaism.  He chastises those who have come into Philippi and tried to steer the church back to the law; 19 Their end is destruction; their god is the belly; and their glory is in their shame. Here he is commenting on the dietary rules of Judaism, their fixation on the right and wrong foods have made their 'bellies' the thing they worship and the circumcision that they are so proud of is the thing which should be in Paul's eyes their greatest shame.

Paul urges them to stand 'firm' in their belief in Christ.  This world that we live in is not where our 'citizenship' lies, we are children of the most high God and our allegiance lies with Him and His Kingdom.  No matter what we endure here, it is only temporary and fleeting, let us remain (as Paul urges the Philippians) focused on God and our service to Him here.

Be a blessing to someone today!

In His Grace,
Roy

Philippians 3:17-4:1 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
17 Brothers and sisters,[a] join in imitating me, and observe those who live according to the example you have in us. 18 For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ; I have often told you of them, and now I tell you even with tears. 19 Their end is destruction; their god is the belly; and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship[b] is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. 21 He will transform the body of our humiliation[c] that it may be conformed to the body of his glory,[d] by the power that also enables him to make all things subject to himself. 4 1 Therefore, my brothers and sisters,[e] whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, my beloved.
