Sunday, October 27, 2019 - Sermon over Luke 18:9-14 "The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector"

Last Sunday we continued our journey with Luke as we draw nearer and nearer to Jerusalem.  Once we get to Advent, we will leave Luke behind and switch over to Matthew's version of events, but for the month of November, we'll continue to listen to Luke's telling.

As I've said several times as we've traveled along with the 'good doctor', or Luke, we've had to deal with some difficult passages.... some hard lessons.  Thankfully today we've come to a very short parable and one that seems not so very ominous as some of those that we've left behind us... we almost want to give a sigh of relief and bask in our vast understanding of this little parable.  We want to give a sigh of relief but then... too late... we realize it was just a trap...

So with that let's consider the parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector... please take a listen...

Be a blessing to someone today!

In Christ,
Roy

Luke 18:9-14 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and regarded others with contempt: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, was praying thus, ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all my income.’ 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his home justified rather than the other; for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.”
